Wishes Beyond Life - FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should I register with Wishes beyond Life?

A. Wishes Beyond Life is the only known product that allows you to record your wishes with the ability to edit the information any time and anywhere in the world by using your Unique Reference Number (URN) and editing Password. On subscribing to Wishes Beyond Life you would receive a card to carry in your wallet/purse/passport which has your URN and read-only password. In the unfortunate event that you are involved in an accident or suffer a medical illness, anybody who can read your Wishes Beyond Life card can access (but not change) your recorded information about your details, next of kin, GP details, Living Will, organ donation wishes, advance wishes , burial wishes, and more. Wishes Beyond Life also offers the opportunity to record and "deposit" information in the format of a letter, pictures or video clips for family, friends or any acquaintances that you feel you would like to leave a message for after you have gone.

Q. Will my wishes be carried out?

A. The Living Will would be legally binding on medical teams in this country if appropriately completed and signed. Different countries have different legislations regarding Living Wills. Although when abroad the Living Will may not be legally binding it would provide guidance to medical teams regarding your wishes. The remainder of all your products would record your wishes and would be upto your nominated representative to undertake and fulfil your wishes, this service would record your wishes and when appropriate release your recorded information to your representatives.

Q. Who do I share my information with once recorded with Wishes Beyond Life?

A. You can share the information with as many or as few people as you wish. You can print certain products and share the paper copies or you can share your Unique Reference Number (URN) and read-only password for them to access your End of Life Plan in its entirety. You can also purchase additional cards with your URN and read only password printed if you desire to provide to next of kin or family members or representatives. We would suggest that you share your End of Life Plan with your GP or medical specialist to add to your medical records and your solicitor to supplement your Will but ultimately it's your decision who you share the information with.

Q. What happens if I lose my Wishes Beyond Life card?

A. If you contact the Wishes Beyond Life office, we shall cancel your Unique Reference Number and read-only password and issue you with a new URN and password (there will be a charge for issuing a new card).

A. On confirming your identity we shall email the password to your email address (free of charge).

Q. How will the contents of my Time Capsule be forwarded to the appropriate recipient?

A. During your life the Unique Reference Number (URN) and read-only password will display if there is a deposit in the "Time Capsule" but not specify who the recipient will be. Following death the Wishes Beyond Life once confirmed your passing will release the names of the recipients onto your product allowing the specified recipients to contact the Wishes Beyond Life, where we would confirm identity and release the contents of the capsule.

Q. What happens if I do not sign my Living Will or forward it to the Wishes Beyond Life office?

A. The contents of your Advance Decision (Living Will) would not be legally binding in the UK, but even if you do not sign the documents they would still provide guidance on your wishes to the medical team. For this document to be legally binding the signed Living Will does not have to be logged by the Wishes beyond Life, but the medical team would need proof of the signed document at the appropriate time.

A. Any remaining memory space will remain with your products to use during your subscription period for adding more information. The additional memory space can be used in any of the purchased products.

Q. Are the companies in the "Services" section vetted by Wishes Beyond Life?

A. No. The companies are advertised within Wishes Beyond Life to provide you with a list of local services that have signed up with Wishes Beyond Life. We would advise you that you liaise with the appropriate service personally to ensure that they can fulfil your requirements.

Q. What’s the difference between a “Will” and a “Living Will”?

A. Principally the “Living Will” records your wishes related to your health but a “Will” records your wishes around your estate and financial affairs. We would strongly advise that no information related to matters appropriate for a “Will” is recorded in any of the products within Wishes Beyond Life (other than the name of your solicitor, if required to guide your next of kin to the location of the “Will”). We would strongly advise you to seek legal advice in drawing up a legal “Will” to minimise any complications with regard to your estate after your passing.

Q.Why not record all the same information with a solicitor instead of Wishes Beyond Life?

A. Wishes Beyond Life provides your health wishes instantly on accessing the website with the appropriate passwords. This can provide guidance to medical teams around your wishes irrespective of your location in the world or the time of day that may be relevant to the further management of your care. Recording your health wishes in a “Will” may delay the time taken to implement your wishes, especially around organ donation.

With Wishes Beyond Life there is no charge for regular updates to your records, with access for you to update 24/7. With a solicitor there is likely to be a fee charged every time you desire to make amendments, and you would only be able to make changes during working hours of the legal firm.

Q. Can I record all my financial affairs and contents of a “Will” within my “Wishes Beyond Life” document?

A. Yes, but we strongly advise you seek legal guidance before incorporating any non health-related issues within a product of Wishes Beyond Life.

Q. Do I need to be at home to edit the contents of my "Wishes Beyond Life" documents?

A. No. So long as you have your Unique Reference Number (URN) and your editing password and access to the Internet, you may edit any of the products from anywhere in the world, at any time of day!!

Q. What do I do if my family or friend wants to register with "Wishes Beyond Life" but does not have access to a computer?

A. With their consent you could complete their documents on this website if you have Internet access.

If they wish to complete the document with no third party involvement they may telephone the Wishes Beyond Life office who will provide a paper copy of the End of Life plan. On returning the written documents the office will transfer all the information onto the Internet and send out a registration card (An admin charge will apply for this service).

Q. What happens if I forget to renew my subscription?

A. If not renewed, your product will remain onsite for one month after the renewal date after which your product will be removed with the passwords inactivated and any uploaded files deleted. If you desire to reregister with Wishes Beyond Life in the future, you would need to reregister as a new client with new fees applicable, and would need to reinstall all your information and wishes.
